We’re an entertainment site, not a political platform. We will attempt to respond to submitted manuscripts as soon as possible, and usually no longer than one to two weeks after receipt. Unsolicited material will be given serious consideration, but it is best to query first in case the film, book, or topic has already been assigned. Send in your contribution with ‘article submission’ in the subject line to If it serves value to our readers, we’ll publish it on Flickside with due credits.

Give your review at least one editorial pass, and maybe two or three, before you consider it to be editorially sound. Use plenty of examples to back up your points. If you make a statement about the movie, back it up with a descriptive example. Describe the way scenes look, the way a certain person acted, camera angles, and so on.

Well-written reviews of theatrical films (including pre-1980 retrospective reviews), Blu-Rays/DVDs, film-related books, soundtracks. We are not interested in what’s on Netflix or any other streaming service. We can occasionallyoffer Blu-Ray & DVD screeners to writers whose work we’ve read, but you’d have to commit to reviewing it in a timely manner upon receiving . With rare exception, FREE KITTENS MOVIE GUIDE only features reviews of physical copies. If you’re interested in writing about films for us, we welcome reviews, but only for films that have just recently premiered at cinemas or been released on VOD/home video.

Photos (provided as high-resolution Adobe Photoshop jpg files) of the interviewee are appreciated, but not mandatory. Include pictures from the sets, behind-the-scenes, film stills, making-of-the-film videos or anything that you think will add value to your story and be of use to our readers. We’re a fan-powered community of cinephiles, film students and filmmakers from around the world recommending movies we love. Before you sit down to watch a film, get out a notepad or a laptop to take notes. Movies are long, and you can easily forget details or major plot points.

In return, the author would be provided a showcase corner and an author’s page (if he/she is consistent). A guest post would be provided with a backlink. A regular contributor will be paid, depending upon the consistency and passion. Please note that since we have space in each issue for only five to six “Film Reviews,” our editors engage in extensive discussions about which films we want to cover. Different instructors will have different expectations about how you format your review. Ask your instructor or take a look at the assignment handout to find out if they have specific instructions.
