Social Security is a tax that should be paid by employees of all American employers, regardless of their location. If you do not live in one of the countries mentioned above, then you may be obligated to pay Social Security tax in both the U.S. and your country of residence. You do not have to begin your 12-month period with your first full day in a foreign country or end it with the day you leave. You can choose the 12-month period that gives you the greatest exclusion.

For example, if you make cash donations to a qualified charity, you may be able to reduce your taxable income by the amount of your contributions, as long as that amount isn’t more than 60% of your adjusted gross income. And if you’re a business owner, you may be able to deduct expenses that are both ordinary and necessary to run your business. These are typically the mortgage interest deduction, charitable donations and state and local tax deductions. But you are capped at claiming no more than $10,000 in deductions on state and local taxes — including state and local income taxes and property taxes. You should also check with your state tax agency to find out what state or local tax deductions you may qualify for when filing your state income tax return. Every business must file and pay taxes, but understanding how to properly report financial information can help lessen the burden.

Using the same numbers as above, applying a $10,000 tax credit to a $26,400 tax bill would reduce your total tax bill to $16,400 ($26,400-$10,000). A stripper claimed a $2,088 deduction for her surgery, which was initially denied by the IRS but accepted by the tax court when she appealed. The court ruled that the augmentation was a legitimate business expense because it could result in bigger tips and more profit for the stripper. As with any profit gained from investments, you must report money made from investing in bitcoin and pay taxes on it.
